Hard To Handle / Just Can't Forget About You | 2 | Track list | 1969 | Capitol Records |
Pop soul singer Born on 29.12.1944 in Charleston, South Carolina. She achieved success in the late 60's. She was raised in Nashville, Tennessee and Evanston, Illinois, where she sang in church with her sisters, Lorraine and Erma. Drew's mother worked for a [l=Capitol] promoter, who heard Drew and her sisters sing in a church service and signed the group as [a=Drew-vels]. They first recorded "Tell Him" which was written by [a=Carlton Black] (and not to be confused with "Tell Him" by [a=Exciters, The]). The single release was a local hit and scraped the lower echelons of the national charts. Drew signed as a solo artist to [l=Quill Records] in 1966 and soon after moved up to [l=Capitol], issuing a new recording of "Tell Him" as her first single. It was a modest success and was the first of three charting singles. She released three albums before leaving the industry in 1971, though she recorded a one-off single in 1975 and sang locally in Evanston in the group Front line in the 1980s.
